Sergeant First Class Steven Newman is a Field Artillery Cannon Crew Member, who entered service in July of 2005.  In August, 2017 he was assigned as a Military Science Instructor at the University of California, Davis Army ROTC program.

Sergeant First Class Newman’s assignments include serving as Platoon Sergeant and Jump Master within the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; as a Drill Sergeant stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia; and multiple position  up to and including Howitzer Section Chief, within the 1st Cavalry Division and 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, TX. During his service, he has also deployed three years in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn.

His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, two Meritorious Service Medals, eleven Army Commendation Medals, seven Army Achievement Medals, four Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal with silver campaign star, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Ribbons, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, three Overseas Service Ribbons, Combat Action Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Sergeant Audie Murphy Award, and the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara’s.
